Maryland Delays Paid Family and Medical Leave Program

The Maryland General Assembly has delayed key dates for the state’s paid family and medical leave insurance program. Employers and employees should prepare for new deadlines beginning in 2027.

Payroll deductions start January 1, 2027

  1. Maximum weekly benefit amount recalculated starting January 1, 2027

  2. First employer payment due April 2027

  3. Employee benefits available beginning January 3, 2028

Employers should adjust compliance timelines and prepare systems for payroll deductions starting in 2027 to meet the updated requirements. Read the Maryland Paid Family and Medical Leave bill for more details.
